Sorry, no real update today. You guys do deserve something though, so here’s a sketch I did a while back of a rather good-natured devil. You might not be able to tell, but I’m a little frustrated at my computer right now for being so darn screwy (right as finals are about to hit).

On a side note: I don’t know what I’d do without Blambot Fonts…

Today’s guest artist is Nina Beizer. Her guest artist statement:

“I don’t have much experience drawing comic strips, but I love to draw - hope you like my comic!”

Sometimes we have guest artist statements. Sometimes not- it kind of depends on whether I remember to ask.

Today’s guest artist is Caitlin Raftery, one of our friends from improv back in California (she currently goes to NYU).

I very much like her artwork. There’s more on her blog (link above). She also has designed things like album art for music records and the like.

This comic was drawn by Nell Klugman. Her guest artist blurb, in response to a hasty text message asking her to give me one before she went to bed, goes like:

“Just say that I love your comic a lot even if you wouldn’t let me draw Descartes and that drawing is fun and people should do it! Anything mindless and enthusiastic would be appropriate to my current exhausted state of mind.”

To explain the reference, Nell wanted to draw Descartes and I said she couldn’t.

This strip has a guest artist as well, Brendan Ternus, who I go to school with currently. As you might be able to tell, however, Cole did the art for the comic you see before you. So what happened?

Basically Brendan and I brainstormed ideas for a while and came up with one we liked. Then we outlined it and Brendan drew it. We were both feeling pretty good, and then we showed it to Cole, who almost immediately thought of a better way to structure the comic. The problem here was that 1. Brendan had already spent several hours drawing the comic with my constant support and encouragement and 2. Brendan had gone to bed because he needed to wake up early.

After agonizing for a while about what to do, Cole and I decided to run Cole’s later version, which is more of a sketch than a complete comic. It’s completely unfair to Brendan, and we felt pretty horrible about it (still do), but it seemed like, if we have a joke, we ought to run the best version of the joke that we can.

So I think we did. Brendan definitely helped write it, and his initial version of the comic is here. Maybe his is funnier! I don’t know anymore. It’s 6 in the morning and I haven’t gone to sleep. I hope Brendan is still our friend, although I would understand if he decided his time would be better spent with people who did what they said they were going to do.

Our first guest artist is Adi Kamdar, our friend from high school. Here is his delightful guest artist message:

“Hey. I’m Adi. I’m today’s guest artist. I don’t really have much comic drawing experience, but I tried, and I gained some wisdom: drawing with a trackpad is HARD AS HELL. Enjoy!”

And yes, I know we’ve done a traffic sign comic before. We’re doing one again. Whatever. We’re also not posting on time. Whatever.

But HOPEFULLY we will be posting on time from now on. We’re very optimistic- we have some more guest artists lined up and everything.

Stay tuned, though, for some potential guest strips! Again, not making any promises, but it could totally happen. In fact, the guest artist could even be you! (send an email to cole@qgmindpolice.com with some impressive artwork if you’re interested)
